GameDevDD Jam #1: Fall!
The GameDev DD Meetup (gamedevdd.de) hosted its very first Game Jam, and 13 really cool submissions came out of it. And yes, we were actually one of them!
You’d think that 2.5 weeks would be plenty of time to develop a small game. And judging by the other projects, that seems to be true… unless your entire household suddenly gets sick. Which is exactly what happened to us: three days after the start, right in the middle of brainstorming and sketching – BAM, everyone knocked out. A full two weeks of complete downtime.
Our original idea titled “Deep Resting Falls” had to be thrown out completely. In the end we just tried to deliver something that
a) can be called a “game,” and
b) maybe even works.
What we ended up with is: Ghost Fall
This time, our little Ghosty is wandering around in a well and – fitting perfectly with the jam theme – falling. You can dodge objects coming up from below across three lanes. For the graphics we used Michael’s Halloween assets (oh right… that was also a thing...).
At least it worked – and this time we even have sound effects!
Here’s a GIF of the gameplay:

And here are Michael’s beautiful Halloween assets in high resolution:

And the best part:
We actually won something?! During the random prize draw at the jam evening, we ended up getting a Steam gift card. Woho! Big thanks to the organizing team for the prizes!
